“How long does it take to create a will?” is a question I get all the time. Perhaps they are really busy with work and family, and they just don’t have much time to deal with such things, even though they are of course really important. Or perhaps they’re about to go on a

big trip, and they know deep down that they really should have their estate plan in order before hitting the road.

Well, if your personal situation is highly complex, then of course it would take longer to get your will created. But if you’re like most people who really only need a simple will, then it can actually be created quite quickly if you work with a law firm like mine. By using secure and efficient online tools I can create and deliver wills and other estate planning documents relatively quickly and at a lower cost than your typical law firm.

Here’s how it works:

First, fill out the Estate Planning Information Form that you can either download from my website (see blue button labeled as ‘GET STARTED NOW FORM) or request that I email you one. If any questions come up while you’re filling out the form, you can contact me at any time. I always tell people that there’s no such thing as a bad question. Once you’re done, then email the form back to me or share it with me via a secure online MyCase account that I can create for you using your email address. I will then create an official quote for you and share it with you via MyCase.

If you’re happy with the quote, then you would pay that quote online with a credit card or your bank account information. Once I’ve received payment I will work on creating first drafts of your documents, and then I will share those drafts with you via MyCase. If you see any changes and/or additions you’d like me to make, I will then make additional drafts of those documents as needed. Once you’re satisfied with the documents, I will either email them or snail mail them to you for an additional fee. Then all you need to do is get them notarized. BAM, you’re done!

Depending on how fast you get me the information that I need and on how many clients I’m working with at that particular time, I can get your finalized copies to you as fast as 1 or 2 business days, depending on my workload at the time. But if there’s more back and forth on the drafts of the documents, it can take longer. Usually the biggest slow downs occur when clients take longer to get back to me on questions that I have. But the bottom line is that my clients are usually in the driver’s seat when it comes to how fast they want to get their documents created. And all of this can be done without time consuming office visits during the middle of your busy schedule.
